Caloocan City to Relocate Pedestrian Lane After Safety Concerns
Caloocan City Addresses Pedestrian Safety Concerns: Railings Obstruct Crossing, New Lane Planned Caloocan City, Philippines – Residents of Barangay 178 in Caloocan City have voiced concerns about a safety hazard affecting pedestrians. A section of the pedestrian lane is blocked by railings, forcing pedestrians to navigate around the obstruction and increasing the risk of accidents. The issue was highlighted in a recent report by GMA Integrated News' Kapuso Action Man segment. "It's dangerous," said Josefina Garcia, a local resident, "because vehicles are constantly passing by, and we have to cross anyway." The close proximity of the railings to moving traffic creates a hazardous situation for pedestrians. In response to these concerns, the Caloocan City Public Safety and Traffic Management Department (PSTMD) has decided to permanently close the affected pedestrian crossing. Engr. Jay Bernardo, Head of the PSTMD, stated, "We're permanently closing the crossing. It won't be used to avoid slowing traffic." The PSTMD is working with other agencies to relocate the pedestrian lane to a safer location, with the project expected to be completed by September. This proactive approach by city officials demonstrates a commitment to improving pedestrian safety and ensuring the well-being of the community. The relocation of the pedestrian lane will provide a safer and more convenient crossing for residents.
