PAGASA Issues Warning: Low Pressure Area and Monsoon to Bring Heavy Rains to the Philippines
Heavy Rains and Low Pressure Area Threaten Philippines: PAGASA Issues Weather Warning The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a public weather forecast on June 8, 2025, at 5 p.m., warning of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon's impact. The LPA, located 215 km east of Baler, Aurora, is being closely monitored. PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres stated, "In the next 24 hours, the chance of it developing into a full-fledged typhoon is low, but after 24 hours, the probability increases." The southwest monsoon, or Habagat, is expected to bring widespread rain, particularly to Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Torres warned of possible localized flooding and landslides in highly susceptible areas. Rainfall amounts of 50-100 mm are anticipated in several regions, with some areas potentially receiving 100-200 mm. PAGASA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available. Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautions and heed warnings from local authorities.
