₱1,200 Taxi Fare at NAIA Sparks Outrage, Driver's License Revoked
A taxi driver at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in the Philippines recently found himself in hot water after charging a passenger ₱1,200 for a short ride to Terminal 2. The passenger, understandably angered by the exorbitant fare, filmed the encounter and posted it online, where it quickly went viral. The video shows the passenger repeatedly questioning the driver's pricing, while the driver attempts to justify the cost, citing fuel expenses and the need to return to the airport. The incident caught the attention of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, who ordered the immediate revocation of both the taxi operator's franchise and the driver's professional license. "Sinabihan ko na yung LTFRB at LTO — i-revoke na yan, pareho, lisensya ng driver atsaka yung prangkisa ng operator," Sec. Dizon stated, emphasizing the government's commitment to protecting commuters from exploitation. The swift action taken by the DOTr underscores the seriousness of the issue and sends a clear message to other taxi drivers and operators. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fair pricing and the need for robust regulatory measures to protect consumers.
