Remembering the 1983 Pamplona Assassination: A Tribute to Fallen Guardia Civil Officers
On May 28, 1983, the Basque separatist group ETA carried out a brutal attack in Pamplona, Spain, claiming the lives of two Guardia Civil officers, Antonio Conejo Salguero and Fidel Lázaro Aparicio. The officers were on duty inside the main post office on Paseo Sarasate when they were ambushed and fatally shot. Conejo Salguero, 41, from Badajoz, left behind a wife and two young daughters. Aparicio, 48, a native of Zaragoza, had served 14 years in Navarra. This act of violence shocked the nation and remains a stark reminder of ETA's devastating legacy. A memorial now stands to honor their sacrifice and the many others lost to terrorism. The attack highlighted the ongoing struggle against ETA and the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the fight against terrorism. This video serves as a poignant tribute to these officers and their families.
