Madrid, Spain – The Guardia Civil has issued a public safety announcement urging caution and adherence to regulations for those enjoying recreational activities on the sea this summer. With an anticipated increase in watercraft usage, the agency emphasizes key measures to ensure safety and prevent incidents. In a recent video, a Guardia Civil officer outlined essential guidelines for boaters and jet ski operators. "Did you know that incidents involving jet skis and recreational boats increase in summer?" the officer queried, before detailing crucial advice. Among the recommendations, the Guardia Civil stressed the importance of always carrying the necessary documentation and licenses for the vessel. Operators are also advised to wear a life jacket at all times and to maintain a safe distance of 200 meters from bathing areas to protect swimmers. Furthermore, the agency strictly prohibits dangerous maneuvers near individuals in the water. A critical point highlighted was the prohibition of alcohol or drug consumption by anyone operating a watercraft. The Guardia Civil underscored the need for clear judgment and responsibility while at sea. "Summer is for enjoying the sea, but always with responsibility," the officer concluded, reinforcing the message of environmental care by urging against littering or polluting the water. In case of any emergency, the public is encouraged to contact the Guardia Civil via 062, 112, or VHF channel 16.
