Câmpulung Muscel, Romania – The 16th edition of the "Gazeta Matematică and Future Olympians" competition has commenced, bringing together some of Romania's most talented young minds. The event, which marks a significant milestone, celebrates 130 years since the uninterrupted publication of "Gazeta Matematică," a prestigious mathematics periodical.During the opening remarks, organizers highlighted the historical connection between the mathematical gazette and the birth of cinematography, noting that both originated in the same year, 1895. A local council representative addressed the students, drawing a parallel between the rigorous work required in mathematics and the art of filmmaking. He also shared historical anecdotes, including the inauguration of the Cernavodă bridge, which is featured on the Mathematical Sciences Society's logo.Speakers emphasized the importance of forming lasting friendships during the competition and acknowledged the presence of former Olympians, such as Andrei Chiriță. Despite the absence of the mayor and deputy mayor due to health reasons, the event proceeded with a focus on academic excellence and community spirit. The competition aims to foster a love for mathematics and encourage future generations of Romanian Olympians.
