Sydney, Australia – A local hair colourist, known as hairbymarlieAU on social media, has issued a public warning about the damaging effects of slicked-back hairstyles, particularly when secured with elastic bands. In a recent viral video, the stylist highlighted a significant increase in cases of tension alopecia and hair breakage among her clients. "I am seeing more tension alopecia and breakage now than I ever have in my entire career," she stated, demonstrating how tight pulling on the hair can lead to damage around the hairline and at the nape of the neck. She emphasized that constant tension from elastic hair ties is detrimental to scalp health and hair integrity. To combat this growing issue, the hair expert strongly advises individuals to switch from traditional elastic bands to softer alternatives such as scrunchies or claw clips. "They just don't have as much tension, and it's so much better for your hair and your scalp," she explained, urging viewers to prioritize their hair health by adopting gentler styling methods.
