Serbia's Stark Contrast: Billions for Expo, Millions Hungry
Serbia's Hidden Hunger: While Millions are Spent on National Projects, 12.5% Face Starvation. A recent report on TV Nova highlighted the stark contrast between the lavish spending on projects like Expo and the national stadium, and the daily struggle for survival faced by a significant portion of the Serbian population. The report showed that the cost of basic groceries for a single person is approximately 420 dinars per day, or 12,695 dinars per month. "12.5% of people in this country are going hungry," stated the reporter, emphasizing the severity of the situation. The report underscored the inadequacy of social support, with only 2.5% of those in absolute poverty receiving assistance. This equates to approximately 153,000 people lacking crucial support, while over 600,000 live below the poverty line. The juxtaposition of this hardship with the billions of euros invested in national projects raises critical questions about resource allocation and social welfare in Serbia.
