London, UK - Gardening enthusiast Helen, known online as helenlikesplants, has shared a remarkably simple yet effective method for supporting growing pea plants, a technique she describes as her "favourite way" to manage these climbing vegetables. In a recent video, Helen demonstrates how to construct a basic trellis using just two wooden sticks and some string, a solution designed to keep pea plants neat and make harvesting easier. "Peas climb as they grow, so they need something to support them," Helen explained in her tutorial. "With two sticks and some string, you can easily make a trellis!" The process involves planting two support sticks into the ground on either side of a row of pea plants. String is then wrapped horizontally around the outside of these sticks, with the pea plants nestled in the middle. As the plants grow, additional layers of string are added, providing new anchor points for the peas' natural tendrils. This method, according to Helen, is not only "super easy to do" but also crucial for maintaining an organized garden. "A trellis like this will keep them neat and easy to harvest," she stated, highlighting the common issue of pea plants sprawling if left unsupported. The technique has garnered significant attention online, with many viewers expressing their intent to try the simple gardening hack in their own plots.
