Belarusian State Inspectorate Launches 'Spawning' Operation to Combat Illegal Fishing
MINSK, Belarus – The State Inspectorate of Animal and Plant Protection in Belarus has initiated a special comprehensive operation named "Spawning" across the country's water bodies. The initiative aims to prevent and suppress administrative offenses related to illegal fishing during the crucial spawning season.
Maxim Malakhov, Head of the Kostyukovichi Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Animal and Plant Life, elaborated on the operation's methodology. "In the framework of this event, we survey water bodies using boats and boat motors, with the goal of preventing and suppressing administrative offenses," Malakhov stated. He further explained that inspectors are specifically looking for prohibited fishing equipment.
During their patrols, the inspection teams actively search for and retrieve illegal fishing gear, including nets and traps, which are often set by individuals disregarding regulations. "When we find such prohibited fishing gear, we extract it from the water," Malakhov confirmed. He emphasized the inspectorate's commitment to wildlife preservation: "If there is fish in live condition, we release the fish back into its natural habitat." The confiscated illegal fishing equipment is subsequently destroyed.
