Istria Embraces Pet-Friendly Tourism: A Growing Trend for Furry Friends and Their Owners

Istria, Croatia – The Croatian region of Istria is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for pet owners seeking a holiday that includes their beloved animals. A recent report highlights the growing number of establishments and accommodations catering to guests traveling with pets, leading to a significant boost in tourism, particularly during the pre and post-season periods. Stefan, a visitor from Germany, shared his long-standing affection for Croatia. "I've traveled all over the world – Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles – but this is the best place. I've been coming here for five years. I was also in Zadar, we love Croatia. I will live here when I retire," he stated, emphasizing the welcoming environment for himself and his dog, Pepa, at a local cafe. Nikol, an Austrian tourist, echoed this sentiment. "It's pet-friendly here, the staff is wonderful, they look after the animals, and we love coming here because there's also a beautiful sunset," she explained. "It's relaxed, dogs go into the water whenever they want. They can swim, and they have treats for dogs, even dog beer." Sandra Domijanić Dravec, owner of a dog-friendly cafe, noted the community's recognition of this trend. "More and more private accommodations are deciding to accept dogs, whereas a few years ago, it wasn't so common," she said. She also revealed that some hotels have seen a 60% increase in arrivals during pre and post-season since becoming pet-friendly. Guests traveling with pets receive a welcome letter, a bowl, a toy, and a treat upon arrival at accommodations. They also receive a destination guide listing pet-friendly beaches and other amenities like veterinarians and groomers. This comprehensive approach has solidified Istria's reputation as a truly pet-friendly destination, making guests feel comfortable and encouraging many to return year after year.
