Fans fear Domhnall Gleeson is losing his Irish accent
Fans of Domhnall Gleeson's latest project have been left divided on whether the Dublin native is losing his Irish accent thanks to his Hollywood stat…
Actor Domhnall Gleeson recently shared insights into his preparation for the upcoming series "The Paper," revealing a dedicated approach that involved hands-on research within the American newspaper industry. During an interview, Gleeson explained his journey to Ohio, where he visited various cities and newsrooms to observe the current state of journalism. "I went out to Ohio. I went to a few different cities. I went to a few different newspapers," Gleeson stated, detailing his immersive experience. He gathered a "whole breadth of information" about where journalism stands today. A particularly striking observation for the Irish actor was the unwavering commitment of journalists. "Ned's a very optimistic person who believes in it. And everybody I met believed in it a lot, and everybody was working incredibly hard," he recounted, referring to a character or concept from the show. Gleeson noted the contrast with common narratives about the struggles of the press. "All you hear is that, like, you know, it's harder to be a journalist now than ever, and newspapers are getting smaller and all that sort of stuff." Despite these challenges, Gleeson found a profound sense of purpose among those he met. "The kids who were getting into it, they cared so much. And the people who've been doing it for years, they cared so much, and they're like fighting the good fight," he observed. He concluded that this collective optimism and belief in their work was the most significant and useful takeaway from his research. "Taking that optimism, taking that fight for Ned—that was the thing that I found useful as opposed to any of the day to day sort of stuff. It was like the belief that it's happening still."
