Gaza Blockade: Desperate Crowds Rush for Food Aid in Rafah
Rafah, Gaza: Thousands Rush for Aid Amidst Blockade Rafah, Southern Gaza – A distressing scene unfolded in the southern city of Rafah on Tuesday, May 27th, as thousands of Palestinians, including women and children, desperately sought food aid. The distribution, organized by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), drew massive crowds from across the embattled enclave. Many traveled on foot or by donkey cart, reflecting the severe lack of resources brought on by the nearly three-month-long blockade. Boxes of aid, each containing flour, oil, tomato sauce, and canned goods, were quickly snatched up. One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene: "What happened with us is that we found people gathering flour off the ground, so we went to this place and found humanitarian aid being distributed." The GHF, a US and Israeli-backed group, reported delivering approximately 8,000 food boxes. However, the United Nations has boycotted the GHF, citing concerns that its methods undermine the principle of independent aid distribution based on need. The video footage, however, shows the overwhelming need and the immediate relief the aid provides.
