Montenegro Protest: Residents Block Road Over Damaged Infrastructure
Ulcinj Residents Stage Protest Over Neglected Infrastructure Ulcinj, Montenegro – Residents of the Totoši neighborhood in Ulcinj staged a protest on June 9, 2025, blocking the main road for an hour to demand improvements to their local infrastructure. Their main complaint centers on a road that was left damaged after the installation of a sewage system in 2019. The road remains unpaved, creating significant difficulties for residents. "Five years have passed, and they still haven't fixed our street," said Enes Uković, a Totoši resident, in an interview featured in a viral TikTok video documenting the protest. "This is the only entrance and exit to our neighborhood." Another resident, Olga Mladenović, expressed concerns about the safety of children walking to school on the damaged road. "Children go to school here," she stated, "and I'm afraid a child might get hurt." The protesters have repeatedly petitioned the Ulcinj municipality, submitting a signed petition several weeks ago. However, they have yet to receive a response. The protest highlights a broader issue of infrastructure neglect in some areas of Montenegro, underscoring the need for greater responsiveness from local authorities to citizen concerns.
