ALSA Bus Crash Trial Begins: Driver Claims He Was a Victim
Seven years after five passengers lost their lives and fourteen were injured in a tragic bus accident in Avilés, Asturias, Spain, the trial of the driver, Omar López, has commenced. The prosecution is seeking a four-year prison sentence and €674,000 in compensation. Mr. López's lawyer, Alberto Renduelles, stated, "We are going to say that he is innocent and that he is another victim of the accident." However, Gonzalo Botas, a lawyer for the prosecution, highlighted the driver's excessive speed of 95 km/h in a 70 km/h zone and his failure to disclose his epilepsy to his employer. The driver's medical records show he had previously suffered an epileptic seizure and voluntarily stopped driving. The trial is expected to continue, with Mr. López scheduled to testify on Thursday.
