Guatemala's Sustainable Tourism Plan: A Call for Public Input
Guatemala Seeks Public Input for Sustainable Tourism Master Plan Guatemala City – The Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT) has released the results of participatory workshops designed to shape the country's sustainable tourism future. The workshops, conducted in April and May with technical support from UNWTO, involved representatives from local communities, the public sector, private businesses, academia, and indigenous groups. The goal is to update Guatemala's Tourism Master Plan for the period 2026-2036. "During April and May, with the technical support of UNWTO, we toured Guatemala, listening to communities to update the Tourism Master Plan," explained one participant in the video. The results of the situational analysis are now available online, and INGUAT is urging the public to share their feedback through an online form. The initiative highlights Guatemala's commitment to sustainable tourism practices and the importance of community involvement in shaping the nation's tourism strategy. The participatory approach ensures that the Master Plan reflects the needs and priorities of all stakeholders, leading to a more inclusive and sustainable tourism sector.
