Home Inspector's Keen Eye Catches Minor Flaws in New Home Construction
Home Inspection Reveals Minor Issues in New Construction A recent pre-drywall inspection in Johnson City, Tennessee, highlighted several minor issues in a new home under construction. Home inspector Austin Jenkins, a Certified Master Inspector (CMI®) with InterNACHI, documented the findings in a short video. "Pre-drywall inspections are a little bit different," Jenkins explains in the video. He uses a paint pen to directly mark deficiencies on the framing, making them easily visible to the construction crew. He notes several instances where plumbing and electrical components were not properly recessed into the framing, requiring additional work. "Here, it looks like this vent stack is protruding out from the framing members," Jenkins points out in one segment of the video. In another section, he shows unsealed openings for exterior lights. Despite these minor issues, Jenkins concludes that the overall construction is "not bad at all." The builder will address the issues before drywall installation. The video offers a glimpse into the process of pre-drywall inspections and the importance of catching problems early in the construction phase.
