UK Energy Crisis: Hundreds of Thousands of Homes Face Heating and Hot Water Cuts
Millions of UK homes face heating and hot water cuts as energy meters are set to be switched off on June 30th, 2025. The Radio Tele-switching System (RTS) is being phased out, but thousands of homes still rely on this outdated technology. Energy UK, the industry body, admits that the upgrade process is not happening fast enough, leaving many customers at risk of serious disruption. David Bateman, an energy customer, described the situation as "utter chaos." Jillian Edmund of Advice Scotland criticized the industry's handling, stating, "It's been very mismanaged, particularly because we've known about this for so long." Energy UK's Ned Hammond conceded that the current upgrade rate of over 1,000 meters per day is insufficient. The company is working to increase the pace and minimize disruption, but the looming deadline leaves many vulnerable. Affected customers are urged to contact their energy suppliers to check their meters and arrange upgrades before June 30th.
