UCLA Student Creates App to Solve Uber Splitting Problem
UCLA Student Solves the Uber Splitting Dilemma with DormPool App Los Angeles, CA – May 15, 2025 – The high cost of transportation is a common concern for college students, especially those attending universities in large metropolitan areas. Titilope, a UCLA student, recently shared her experience of the difficulties of splitting Uber fares with classmates, particularly when traveling to and from airports at odd hours. "The most annoying thing is trying to find people to split an Uber to UCLA at 6 AM or after 9 PM," she explained in a recent video. This struggle inspired her to create DormPool, a new app designed to streamline the process of ride-sharing among college students. DormPool allows students to create group rides in advance, specifying their destination and arrival time. Other students can then join the trip, and the app automatically calculates and divides the fare. This eliminates the awkwardness of finding ride-sharing partners at the last minute and ensures a fair distribution of costs. The app also integrates with various ride-hailing services, allowing users to compare prices and choose the most economical option. Titilope, who has no coding experience, built the app to address a common problem and help her fellow students save money. DormPool is currently available to UCLA students and is being expanded to other universities.
