Moscow Metro Turns 90: Celebrations and Modernizations Mark a Milestone
Moscow Celebrates Metro's 90th Anniversary with New Developments Moscow, Russia - May 19, 2025 - The Moscow Metro recently celebrated its 90th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the city's history. The anniversary was marked by various events, including a parade of trains and historical reconstructions. Passengers received branded Troika cards, and stations were decorated with festive symbols. 'It was a joyous occasion,' said Anya Tsvetkochkin, a local resident who attended some of the celebrations. In addition to the Metro's anniversary, Aeroexpress also celebrated its 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, Aeroexpress trains and buses have transported over 200 million passengers, connecting central Moscow with airports. The company has also introduced innovative services, including biometric payment and double-decker trains. Further improvements to the city's infrastructure include the restoration of a historical bas-relief at the Taganskaya metro station, dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The original bas-relief was lost in 1966, but a new one has been created from archival materials and installed in the passage between the stations of the Koltsovaya and Taganskaya lines. Finally, Yandex Maps has added 3D models of metro station vestibules, allowing users to view them from all sides. This is expected to improve navigation throughout the city. Future plans include adding models of train stations and airports. The combination of these events and improvements highlights Moscow's commitment to modernizing its transportation network and preserving its rich history.
