Oaxaca Election Security: Minor Conflicts Addressed Ahead of June 1st Vote
Oaxaca Officials Address Election Concerns: Peaceful Voting Efforts Underway Ahead of the crucial June 1st judicial elections in Oaxaca, Mexico, government officials are working to ensure a peaceful and orderly process. Secretary of Government Jesús Romero López recently addressed concerns about potential conflicts in 25 municipalities, stating that these issues are being addressed directly with local communities. "We are focusing on conflict in 25 municipalities, working with community assemblies to allow for the installation of polling stations," Romero López explained. "These are minor issues. We're not talking about red flags, not even yellow flags. We are confident the process will be peaceful and well-managed." While acknowledging a few requests for security from candidates, Romero López emphasized that no formal complaints have been filed. He outlined the security plan, including collaborations with federal and state agencies like the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), and the Secretariat of the Navy. The plan also involves the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Oaxaca State Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute (IEEPCO). Romero López concluded by assuring citizens of their safety and encouraging them to vote without fear. The proactive approach by Oaxaca's government, engaging directly with communities and coordinating with various agencies, suggests a commitment to ensuring a fair and secure election for all.
