Oaxaca Invests in Ecotourism: Millions in Funding for Sierra Norte Communities San Antonio Cuajimoloyas, Oaxaca – The Oaxaca state government is investing heavily in ecotourism development in the Sierra Norte region, with a focus on sustainable practices and community empowerment. This initiative, part of the "Trabajo que Transforma tu Municipio" program, was highlighted during a recent visit by Tourism Secretary Saymi Pineda Velasco and Governor Salomón Jara Cruz to San Antonio Cuajimoloyas. The government is providing significant financial support to local communities. One million pesos have been allocated for improvements to tourist infrastructure in San Antonio Cuajimoloyas and other nearby villages. These upgrades include improvements to cabins and zip lines. Furthermore, funding has been secured for the 22nd annual Feria Regional de Hongos Silvestres y Productos No Maderables, a celebration of wild mushrooms and non-timber forest products, scheduled for July during the Guelaguetza festivities. "This investment underscores our commitment to sustainable tourism that benefits local communities," said Pineda Velasco. "We are working to create opportunities for economic growth while preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region." The initiative extends beyond San Antonio Cuajimoloyas. San Pedro Cajonos, known for its silk textile production, and San Francisco Cajonos, with its rich forest resources and community museum, are also set to benefit from the program. The hope is to create a network of ecotourism experiences across the Sierra Juárez region, attracting both domestic and international visitors. The program's focus on community involvement is crucial for its success. Local residents will play a key role in managing and benefiting from the tourism development. This collaborative approach ensures that tourism benefits the community, preserving its culture and environment for generations to come.
