China's High-Speed Rail Offers Cost-Effective and Efficient Business Class Travel A recent video by Canadian CEO Joe Ng, who is relocating to China, has shed light on the surprisingly affordable and efficient business class experience on China's high-speed rail network. Ng, traveling from Shenzhen to Guangzhou with his wife, highlighted the numerous advantages of rail travel over flying within the country. "This is why I rarely take planes while in China," Ng stated, emphasizing the extensive coverage of the high-speed rail system across most of the country. He noted the absence of airport security hassles and the trains' remarkable speed, often making rail travel faster than flying for many routes. The video showcased the business class amenities, which include individual reclining pods, complimentary snacks, and even slippers, all while the train maintains speeds exceeding 300 kilometers per hour. Ng revealed that their business class trip for two, covering 130 kilometers in just 36 minutes, cost a total of $67.86. He also clarified the naming convention for classes, stating that "Business Class" on Chinese high-speed rail is equivalent to "First Class" in North America, while "First Class" is equivalent to "Business Class," and "Second Class" is "Economy," with economy fares for the same route reportedly as low as $10. The video suggests that China's high-speed rail presents a compelling and economical alternative for inter-city travel.
