Grand Rapids, MI \u2013 Local resident Josh Leo has implemented an innovative solution to manage stormwater runoff from his driveway, transforming a common household challenge into an eco-friendly landscape feature. Mr. Leo, who resides in Grand Rapids, recently unveiled his self-designed rain garden, which redirects water from his driveway into a specially prepared bed of native plants. "Our driveway is unique," Mr. Leo explained in a recent video, demonstrating how water naturally flows across the concrete surface. "It makes its way to this drain right there." However, instead of allowing the water to enter the conventional drainage system, Mr. Leo has engineered a path that guides the runoff along the sidewalk and into a newly established rain garden. The garden features a collection of rocks and various native plants, designed to absorb and filter the water. "My idea was that all the rain that comes from the driveway and washes down the sidewalk would make its way here," he stated, gesturing towards the verdant patch. "Hopefully, all these plants love the water that flows down the sidewalk." This project not only addresses potential drainage issues but also promotes local biodiversity by utilizing native flora. The initiative highlights a growing trend among homeowners to adopt sustainable landscaping practices that benefit both their property and the environment.
