Brazilian Governor Seeks Crime-Fighting Solutions in El Salvador
Minas Gerais Governor Studies El Salvador's Crime Reduction Success Brazilian Governor Romeu Zema recently concluded a three-day trip to El Salvador, where he observed the country's dramatic decrease in crime rates under President Nayib Bukele. Zema, accompanied by his Secretary of Justice and Public Security, Rogério Greco, met with Salvadoran legislators and community members to learn about the strategies employed. "El Salvador is the country that has advanced the most in the fight against violence in recent years," Zema stated, impressed by the results. Greco added, "Political will, legislative change, and judicial support were key factors." The governor's visit underscores a growing global interest in Bukele's controversial but effective approach to security. Zema intends to apply lessons learned to further improve security measures in Minas Gerais, already recognized for its low homicide rates. The visit serves as a case study in international cooperation on crime reduction.
