IOF Tax Hike Debate and Assassination Ring Shake Brazil
Brazil's Finance Minister Haddad and Congress presidents met to discuss the controversial increase of the IOF tax. Haddad emphasized that maintaining public services could be compromised without the increase. Congress gave a 10-day deadline to study alternatives. Separately, the Federal Police arrested five members of an assassination ring targeting Supreme Court justices. The group, known as "Comando C4," charged exorbitant fees, ranging from R$50,000 to R$250,000 per assassination. The investigation also revealed a list of materials and targets. Senator Rodrigo Pacheco expressed outrage at the assassination plot. The operation was authorized by Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin. Both events highlight significant challenges facing Brazil's government and justice system.
