Ghana's FDA Launches Anti-Tobacco Campaign on World No Tobacco Day
Ghana observes World No Tobacco Day with a public health campaign. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana is leading a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. "No form of tobacco is safe," stated Dr. Olivia Boateng, Director of the Tobacco and Substance Abuse Division at the FDA. The campaign targets young people, who are increasingly using shisha, vapes, and other tobacco products. The FDA's Volta Regional Director, Godwin Akurugu, said the authority will continue efforts until tobacco consumption is eradicated. A medical outreach program provided free health screenings for lifestyle and tobacco-related diseases, partnering with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. This year's theme is "Unmasking the Appeal," exposing industry tactics. The campaign underscores the importance of public health initiatives in combating tobacco use and protecting the health of Ghanaians.
