The operation, led by the Inspector General of Police, took place at Bui Sobinso and Subinso. Authorities seized a significant amount of equipment, including weapons, vehicles, and excavators used in the illegal mining activities. While suspects were apprehended at Bui Sobinso, another site at Subinso was discovered, but the perpetrators managed to escape. All those arrested and the confiscated materials have been moved to the Bono Regional Police Headquarters for further investigation. "The operation is ongoing," a police spokesperson stated, emphasizing the commitment to combating illegal mining in the region. One of the arrested miners, whose name was not disclosed in the video, was heard saying (in Chinese) that he was just working there. This raid highlights the ongoing challenges Ghana faces in curbing illegal mining and its detrimental impact on the environment and the rule of law. The successful apprehension of numerous suspects offers a glimmer of hope in the fight against this pervasive issue.
