Ghana's Green Revolution: Turning Waste into Wealth
Ghana's World Environment Day Focus: Waste-to-Wealth Innovation Accra, Ghana – On World Environment Day 2025, environmental advocates in Ghana highlighted the importance of waste-to-wealth innovation. The event, held in Accra, brought together environmental leaders, students, and policymakers to discuss initiatives promoting youth entrepreneurship in this sector. A key focus was on channeling financial and technical support into pilot projects that empower young people to transform waste into economic value. "We are very excited about this because we have some of our young people that we've trained over time, and we are supporting, who are green entrepreneurs," said Hannah Bissiw, Country Program Coordinator for CDKN in Ghana. Bissiw emphasized the importance of providing technical and, in some cases, financial support to these young innovators. Cedric Dzelu, Technical Lead at the Ministry of Climate Change and Sustainability, reaffirmed the government's commitment to scaling up youth-led waste innovations across Accra. "It's important to put across that the office of the Minister of Climate Change, under the leadership of Honorable Baba Saidu Issifu, is putting in place measures to ensure the young people are at the forefront of climate change innovations," Dzelu stated. The event showcased numerous examples of waste being transformed into useful products, demonstrating the potential for economic growth and environmental sustainability in Ghana.
