GRA Official Explains Energy Sector Levy Accountability
Ghana Revenue Authority Addresses Energy Sector Levy Accountability Ghana's Energy Sector Levy has been a subject of public interest, with questions raised about its accountability. To address these concerns, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) recently clarified the processes involved in managing this revenue stream. In an interview on JoyNews' AM Show, Smile Agbemenu, Chief Revenue Officer of the Customs Policy and Programmes Department at the GRA, explained that the levy's management adheres to standard procedures used for other government revenues. "This is nothing different from what we are already doing," Agbemenu stated, emphasizing the system's established mechanisms for collection and accounting. Agbemenu detailed the two payment windows within the month, with an initial payment due by the 15th and the final payment at the end of the month. He also described the categorization of oil marketing companies and the security measures in place to ensure proper accounting. The GRA's commitment to transparency and accountability in managing the Energy Sector Levy is a positive step towards addressing public concerns and fostering trust in government institutions.
