A legal expert is urging employees to be vigilant about their employment rights, particularly concerning dismissals that may occur while they are on vacation or sick leave. According to labor lawyer Juanma Lorente, the common belief that holiday periods or medical leave halt the legal deadline for contesting a dismissal is a dangerous misconception. Mr. Lorente emphasizes that the 20-day period to file a claim against a dismissal continues to run from the moment the notification is received, regardless of the employee's availability or location. He warns that delaying action until after returning from vacation or recovery can result in the forfeiture of the right to demand compensation, potentially leading to significant financial losses. "Many workers think that nothing happens when they are on vacation," Lorente stated, "but the deadline to challenge a dismissal is only 20 working days, and it starts counting even if you are away or disconnected." He advises immediate consultation with a labor lawyer upon receiving any dismissal notice to ensure timely legal action and protect one's rights.
