A Spanish labor lawyer, JuanmaLorente_Laboralista, recently highlighted a significant, yet often overlooked, labor right: a four-day paid leave for urgent family matters. In a video shared on social media, the expert detailed the conditions under which employees can request this leave, emphasizing its flexibility and the employer's obligation to grant it. According to JuanmaLorente_Laboralista, this leave can be utilized for urgent reasons related to family members or cohabitants, such as an accident or illness requiring immediate presence. "Everyone knows about the five-day leave for a family member's hospitalization, but almost no one knows about this one," he stated. A key feature of this provision is its hourly applicability, allowing employees to take a few hours off as needed, rather than an entire day. "If you need three hours, you can take those three hours and not lose a full day of leave," the lawyer explained. He provided a practical example: if a child breaks an arm at school and needs to be taken to the hospital, an employee can request this leave. The employer is legally bound to approve it and compensate the employee for the time taken, as if they had worked. "The company cannot say no, and they will have to pay you for this time as if you had worked," he affirmed. The lawyer underscored the utility of this right, urging workers to familiarize themselves with it.
