
Romanian Doctors Detained in Major Fraud Case
Craiova, Romania – In a significant development, four female family doctors in Dolj County have been detained for 24 hours following an investigation into alleged fraudulent claims. The investigation, conducted by the Economic Crime Investigation Service of Dolj, revealed that between 2020 and January 2025, these doctors allegedly submitted false claims for over 14,500 hours of on-call work. This resulted in an estimated loss of 955,000 lei (approximately $200,000 USD) to the Dolj Health Insurance House. A spokesperson for the Dolj County Police stated, "The investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable."
