Keeping Berries Fresh: Simple Tips and Tricks Millions of people enjoy fresh berries, but keeping them fresh can be a challenge. Food blogger Nicole K. Modic (@kalejunkie) recently shared her expert tips on extending the life of your berries. Modic suggests two methods. For short-term storage, she recommends carefully inspecting your berries and removing any moldy ones. "Because if the moldy ones touch others, they will go bad too." Then, she adds a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. For longer storage, Modic uses a vinegar solution. She adds the berries to a bowl with one cup of vinegar and three cups of water. "The vinegar helps kill the bacteria and slows the rate of new bacteria from forming." After a ten-minute soak, the berries are thoroughly dried with paper towels. This method, she says, allows berries to remain fresh for several weeks. While some might be hesitant about the vinegar method, Modic assures viewers, "No, they do not taste like vinegar." Her tips have resonated with many, demonstrating the value of simple techniques for preserving food freshness.
