Romanian Farmers Fight Back Against Fake Food Producers
Romanian Farmers Fight Back Against Fake Food Producers Satu Mare, Romania – A new law is proposed to tackle the growing problem of fake food producers in Romanian markets. The law aims to protect consumers and legitimate farmers who are struggling against unfair competition. Farmers in Satu Mare are particularly affected. One farmer stated, "For some customers, shopping in the market is like a lottery. You don't know if you're buying from a real producer or just a reseller." The issue is the ease with which individuals obtain producer certificates without proper authorization. Market administrators admit that verifying these certificates is difficult. Sorin Stănescu, a market administrator, explained, "We don't have the authority to verify certificates and go out into the field to check." The proposed law mandates quarterly reporting to tax authorities by local authorities on producers' data. This measure will improve transparency and accountability, reducing the risk of fraud. The law's passage through parliament is expected to significantly improve consumer confidence in local markets and ensure fair competition for farmers.
