Congressional Candidate Claims ICE Officer Mistreatment During Illinois Protest
A protest outside the Broadview ICE facility in Illinois on September 19, 2025, escalated when a demonstrator, identified as Kat Abughazaleh, reported an alleged incident of mistreatment by a fully armored ICE officer. The incident, captured on video, shows several armed officers present as one officer appears to make contact with Abughazaleh, leading to her falling to the ground near a white van. She was then assisted by another individual. Abughazaleh, who is running for Congress in IL-9, stated in her video, "This is how a fully armored ICE officer treated me for peacefully protesting." The protest, which called for the closure of the Broadview facility at 1930 Beach Street, aimed to highlight concerns regarding immigration enforcement. Authorities have not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
