Дівчина з Маріуполя назвала 5 поширених міфів про захід України, якими їх лякали з дитинства. Серед них співпраця з Гітлером.
A resident of Mariupol, who grew up in the city, has shared her personal experience with deeply ingrained myths about Western Ukraine. In a recent video, she detailed six pervasive misconceptions that were prevalent during her childhood, highlighting a historical narrative of animosity and division. Among the myths she recounted were beliefs that Western Ukrainians are inherently lazy and poor, often traveling to Europe for menial jobs like cleaning toilets because they refuse to work 'normal' jobs at home. Another significant myth was the widespread conviction in Mariupol that Western Ukrainians harbored a deep hatred for Russian-speaking populations, simply 'for their existence.' The speaker also touched upon historical distortions, noting a myth that Lviv residents actively participated in World War II on Hitler's side due to their alleged hatred for Russian speakers. A particularly shocking misconception she mentioned was the belief that Russian-speaking individuals who entered a 'kryivka' (Ukrainian insurgent hideout) would be 'eaten.' Furthermore, she addressed the origin of the patriotic slogan 'Slava Ukraini,' claiming it was falsely attributed to Lviv residents and equated to Nazi slogans. The speaker concluded by stating that her upbringing fostered a sense of 'Malorossiya' (Little Russia), where Western Ukraine was seen as a distinct, unfamiliar 'people,' while Russia was revered as the 'older brother.' This narrative, she explained, led many young people to aspire to study in Russian universities. The video has sparked a broad discussion among viewers, with many from both Eastern and Western Ukraine sharing their own experiences and refuting these divisive myths, emphasizing a different reality of inter-regional relations and solidarity.
