Survivor’s First Queer Female Couple of Color Just Hard Launched - GO Magazine
Katurah Topps and Sabiyah Broderick shared their relationship on social media this week.
In an exclusive revelation, two former contestants from the popular reality series 'Survivor 45,' Katurah Topps and Sabiyah, have shared the intriguing story of their first encounter. Defying the strict pre-game rules of silence and isolation at Ponderosa, the resort where players reside before the competition, the duo formed an unexpected bond in a bathroom. “We hadn’t really had any contact the whole time,” Katurah explained, describing the tense atmosphere before the game. “And then it is the morning that the game is starting. It’s 3 AM. The boats are pulled up. This is the last second that you are at Pondi.” Sabiyah recounted how Katurah entered the bathroom first, and she followed, waiting for her to finish washing her hands. “I’m staring her down through the mirror,” Sabiyah said, detailing the silent communication. Katurah, noticing Sabiyah’s gaze, looked up, and Sabiyah subtly conveyed a message: “Just so you know, I got you.” This clandestine interaction, a moment of shared understanding amidst the imposed silence, solidified an early alliance. Katurah expressed the immediate impact, saying, “I swear my heart skipped. Like, in that moment, I’m like, I’m in it. Everything I have.” The pair also reflected on the historical challenges faced by Black women on 'Survivor,' noting that statistics often show them having a difficult time progressing deep into the game. Their immediate connection, despite the show's design to separate contestants, provided a unique foundation for their individual journeys on the island. Though they were later separated into different tribes, their initial bond at Ponderosa remained a significant turning point.
