Baldwin Park Mourns Fallen Officer and Innocent Victim Baldwin Park, CA – The community of Baldwin Park is in mourning following the tragic shooting deaths of Police Officer Samuel Riveros and Darius Wong on Saturday. The incident occurred in a local neighborhood, leaving residents shocked and heartbroken. "Community members have been grieving the fallen officer at this memorial," said a KCAL News reporter at the scene, referring to the growing memorial outside the police station. The reporter also described the emotional procession that took place last night as Officer Riveros' body was escorted to Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Covina. Hundreds lined the streets to pay their respects. A touching story emerged from a viewer who shared a video of her young son's interaction with Officer Riveros two years prior. "My son used to love waving at officers, and Riveros was the only one who went out of his way, flipping a U-turn to come back, talk with him, and give him a sticker." she said. The mother shared that after that interaction, her son expressed a desire to become a police officer just like him. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Eduardo Medina-Berumen, is now facing charges of first-degree murder with special circumstances. The incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the profound impact on the community when tragedy strikes. A large candlelight vigil is planned for Friday evening outside the police station, providing a space for continued community mourning and remembrance. The vigil will also honor Darius Wong, the first shooting victim, a husband and father.
