Salinas Celebrates Los Tigres del Norte: A Lifetime of Music and Advocacy Salinas, CA – June 10th, 2025, marked a special day in Monterey County as the Board of Supervisors honored the legendary Mexican norteño group, Los Tigres del Norte, for their extraordinary contributions to the immigrant community. The event, held at the County Board of Supervisors meeting, was a testament to the band's decades-long advocacy work. The band members received the key to the County of Monterey, a prestigious honor previously bestowed only upon Salinas-born NFL legend Joe Kapp. A resolution was also adopted, officially proclaiming June 10th as "Los Tigres Del Norte Day" in Monterey County. "This is the first time we worked here, when we came to the United States as children," said Jorge Hernandez, lead vocalist and accordionist of Los Tigres del Norte, during the ceremony. "We came here to donate our work to the people who were detained, the Latinas." Hernan Hernandez, vocalist/bassist, expressed gratitude for the honor, highlighting the challenges faced by immigrants in the past. The ceremony was filled with emotion, celebrating not only the band's musical achievements but also their unwavering commitment to social justice. The event underscored the importance of recognizing those who champion the rights and well-being of immigrant communities.
