Snake Invasion Terrifies Ibiza Tourists
Ibiza is facing an ecological crisis. The invasion of the biacco snake, originating from mainland Spain and North Africa, has caused alarm among tourists. Numerous sightings of these snakes, some measuring up to 1.8 meters, swimming in the coastal waters have led to widespread fear. Víctor Colomar, coordinator of the Consortium for the Protection of Wildlife of the Balearic Islands, stated, “Seeing them in the sea was a shock. We never expected them to become such skilled swimmers.” The influx of biacco snakes, initially marked by sporadic sightings, has escalated into an unmanageable situation, impacting the island's tourism sector.
