San Sebastián, Spain – Television presenter Ion Aramendi recently shared a captivating and humorous anecdote from his youth during a broadcast. Aramendi recounted a challenging situation he faced at 17, when he found himself needing to move a friend's car without a driver's license. The incident occurred in San Sebastián, involving a precarious descent from Monte Igueldo. According to Aramendi, he took the "brilliant idea" to drive the car, despite never having driven before, to prevent his friend's parents from discovering the vehicle. "I take the car and we go down the Monte Igueldo hill, which is very dangerous," Aramendi stated, highlighting the perilous nature of his decision. His other friends, exercising caution, declined to join him in what he described as a "coffin on wheels." After successfully navigating the difficult parking exit and the descent in first gear, Aramendi encountered an unexpected turn of events. "Suddenly, I see lights and sirens," he explained, describing a police car from the Ertzaintza (Basque police) performing a dramatic stop in front of him. In a quick, albeit questionable, decision, Aramendi switched places with his friend, who was reportedly unconscious, putting him in the driver's seat. He recalled the police questioning him, insisting he was the driver and even remembering his blue Billabong shirt. Aramendi, still without a license, attempted to deny driving, claiming it was his friend's car. The story concludes with the police seemingly unconvinced by his actions. The presenter humorously posed the question to his audience: "Was I a good friend, or was I a bad friend?"
