Peruvian Technicians Arrested in Hit-and-Run Death of Venezuelan Woman
On May 14, 2025, Mary Andreína Farías, a Venezuelan mother of five, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident in San Bartolo, Peru. Two technicians, Jean Carlos Montero Huaylinos and Rubén Darío Cueva Velázquez, employed by a company subcontracted by Claro, have been arrested. Security camera footage shows the technicians leaving Farías' apartment, with her following them. A neighbor stated, "She was moving to a new apartment and was visibly upset when they left." The technicians are accused of homicide and possibly sexual assault. While forensic tests are still pending, the police have initiated a thorough investigation. Friends and neighbors held a vigil, demanding justice and the repatriation of Farías' remains to Venezuela, as she had no family in Peru. Both PC Telecom and Claro have confirmed that the technicians have been dismissed. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of femicide in Peru, with the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations reporting 58 cases of femicide and 93 attempted femicides in the country between January and April 2025.
