Amazon Kidnapping: Tourists Released After Ransom Payment

Three tourists were kidnapped at gunpoint on the Amazon River near Iquitos, Peru, on Saturday. Their families paid a ransom of 30,000 soles for their release. According to initial reports, six armed men, faces covered, intercepted the tourists' boat. A local fisherman later found the tourists, who were disoriented and in shock, near Tarapacá. "The tourists were found wet, disoriented, and in shock," said a police officer in an interview. Authorities have identified four suspects and intensified river patrols to combat similar crimes. The incident highlights the risks of river travel in the Amazon region and the challenges faced by authorities in combating criminal activity.
