Sheinbaum Leads Opposition Against Proposed Tax on US-Mexico Remittances
Mexico City's Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum has voiced strong opposition to a proposed bill in the US Congress that would impose a tax on remittances sent from the United States to Mexico. In a recent video, Sheinbaum stated, “De ser necesario, nos vamos a movilizar; no queremos que haya impuestos a las remesas de nuestros paisanos en Estados Unidos.” This translates to, "If necessary, we will mobilize; we do not want taxes on the remittances of our countrymen in the United States." She highlighted the injustice of double taxation on Mexican citizens working and paying taxes in the US. She urged citizens to contact their senators to oppose the bill. This initiative underscores the significant impact of remittances on the Mexican economy and the concerns surrounding potential policy changes affecting millions of families.
