Chalco Floods Again: Drainage Failure Submerges Homes and Public Transport
Chalco, Mexico, once again suffers severe flooding after heavy rainfall. The downpour, which began Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning, overwhelmed the town's drainage system. Water levels reached a meter high, submerging streets and homes. Public transport, including the newly inaugurated trolleybus line to Santa Marta, was severely affected. One van driver fell into a manhole. "The authorities promised to carry out works to prevent this from happening," said a resident wading through the floodwaters. "But they didn't finish in time." Last year's rains collapsed the Solidaridad collector, leaving over 2,500 homes flooded for almost two months. While the authorities have pledged improvements, the recurrence of this disaster highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Chalco.
