Mexico: Cartel Arrest and Police Clash Rock Two Cities
Tijuana and Culiacán: A Week of Turmoil in Mexico This week witnessed significant events in two Mexican cities. In Tijuana, Baja California, authorities arrested José Antonio Ramírez Talavera, alias "El Chaparro." He's linked to "Los Aquiles," an armed wing of the "La Mayiza" cartel, and was allegedly responsible for drug distribution and violence. Authorities seized drugs, weapons, and vehicles during the operation. In Culiacán, Sinaloa, a confrontation between state and municipal police resulted in the detention of seven municipal officers. This led to the resignation of Sergio Leiva, the Culiacán Public Security Secretary. The incident began Monday night when state police responded to a report of a shooting victim at a private hospital. They encountered municipal officers guarding the injured person, escalating the situation. The Attorney General's office is investigating due to the type of weapons involved. On Tuesday, families and friends of Nestor and Karla, allegedly killed by federal officers on Sunday, protested outside the National Guard headquarters in Culiacán. The video includes images of the protest and confiscated materials from the arrests.
