Iran to Resume Uranium Enrichment; IAEA Expresses Concern Over Missing Uranium
Iran's Atomic Energy Agency declared its readiness to resume uranium enrichment without any interruption, a move that could escalate international tensions. The announcement comes amidst ongoing efforts to monitor the nation's nuclear activities. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), welcomed recent announcements on the Iran situation. He emphasized that resuming cooperation with the IAEA is crucial for a successful agreement. Grossi confirmed he has reached out to Iran's Foreign Minister, stressing that this step could lead to a diplomatic solution for the long-standing controversy surrounding Iran's nuclear program, and proposed an early meeting. In a concerning revelation, Grossi also admitted that the United Nations had lost track of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium that Iran possessed prior to the recent conflict. The IAEA was only informed by Iran that measures would be taken to safeguard this material, raising questions about the oversight of the nuclear material.
