Claudia Sheinbaum Denounces 'Unjust' ICE Detention of Mexican Migrant, Father of US Soldiers
Mexico City, Mexico – Claudia Sheinbaum, speaking at the 'Conferencia del Pueblo Ciudad de México,' today condemned the detention of Mexican gardener Narciso Barranco by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Santa Ana, California, calling it an "injustice." Barranco, a 31-year-old Mexican national from Cuernavaca, Morelos, was reportedly detained while working at a cafeteria. "It is unjust, it is an injustice," Sheinbaum stated, emphasizing that Barranco is the father of three US soldiers. She highlighted that his children were born in the United States and now serve the country. "Mexicans who live in the United States, migrants, are people who went to the United States out of necessity and have made their life there," Sheinbaum asserted. She added that many are Mexicans and Americans simultaneously, even without formal nationality papers, because they have contributed to the United States their entire lives. Sheinbaum concluded by calling for a debate on such cases, noting that there are many similar instances of migrants who have built lives and raised families in the US, only to face inhumane treatment.
