Operation Albatros: A Coruña Police Net Cybercrime Ring
A Coruña, Spain - In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Spanish authorities have announced the successful conclusion of Operation Albatros. The operation, a joint effort between the Guardia Civil in A Coruña and the National Police's technological investigation group, resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the investigation of seven more. These individuals, of Brazilian origin, were allegedly involved in a sophisticated scheme involving "carding" — the illegal acquisition of bank card details for online purchases — and large-scale ticket scalping. "Their methods were quite simple, yet effective," stated Alberto González, a member of the Guardia Civil's A Coruña team, in a video released by La Voz de Galicia. "They used the stolen information for personal gain and to launder money from ticket reselling." The operation, carried out last week, also benefited from the cooperation of the affected bank's security and intelligence department. Authorities have identified more than 178 victims of the criminal group's activities. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Spanish law enforcement to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from financial fraud.
